Significance of Janmāṣṭamī

Another name of Kṛṣṇa is Aja or ‘Unborn’. The Vedānta Sūtra defines Him as janmādy asya yataḥ, the eternal source of birth for everyone and everything. Yet, out of immense compassion for the fallen souls in the material world, He descends into the material world in every yuga only to invite the conditioned souls back to His kingdom, which is our real home.

Kṛṣṇa descended into this world about 5,250 years ago. Through His ever-victorious pastimes and enlightening words like in Bhagavad-gītā, He firmly established religious principles characterized by devotional service unto His lotus feet.

Therefore, Janmāṣṭamī signifies the unbounded mercy of the Supreme Lord by which He descends and establishes His mission of reclaiming the fallen souls.

By honoring His transcendental birth, we become free from repeated birth in the material world and attain the kingdom of God, as confirmed by Kṛṣṇa Himself in the Bhagavad-gītā.

Festival Sponsorship Opportunities

A fraction of the many benefits one enjoys by contributing to the opulent service of the Lord in the temple are as follows:

“One who offers the Deity gifts of land, markets, cities and villages so that the regular daily worship and special festivals of the Deity may go on continually will achieve residence in Vaikuṇṭha with opulence equal to My own.” [Śrīmad Bhāgavatam 11.27.51]

“In worshiping the temple Deity, my dear Uddhava, bathing and decoration are the most pleasing offerings. I am certainly most pleased when nice presentations of fragrant oil, incense, flowers and palatable foods are offered with love.” [Śrīmad Bhāgavatam 11.27.16,18]
