Deepa means light and avali means numerous. So Deepavali means numerous lights. When Lord Rama returned to Ayodhya after slaying Ravana and rescuing Sita, the citizens welcomed him by offering numerous lamps. Deepavali is also celebrated as the day when Lord Krishna killed the demon of ignorance Narakasura and saved the earth from the tyrant.

Deepavali does not only mean to symbolically light lamps but the real essence is to light the lamp of knowledge and dissipate the darkness of ignorance in our hearts. It is also a festival to welcome the Lord into our lives and reconnect our lost relationship with him through love and devotion.

Lord Krishna also proclaimed in Bhagavad Gita 10.14 jñāna-dīpena bhāsvatāI, I dwelling in their hearts, destroy with the shining lamp of knowledge the darkness born of ignorance.

So, please celebrate this most auspicious Deepavali Festival with us and get immense blessings of Lord Krishna.
