srimad-bhagavatam-300x200-300x300

His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda states in his purport to Bhagavad-gītā 5.25, “The sufferings of humanity are due to forgetfulness of Kṛṣṇa as the supreme enjoyer, the supreme proprietor and the supreme friend. Therefore, to act to revive this consciousness within the entire human society is the highest welfare work.”

The primary means by which this is done in our movement is through the distribution of knowledge by selling Srila Prabhupāda’s books to the public.

That highest welfare activity customarily receives a boost for a month every year and we call it the Book Distribution Marathon Month. In Singapore, we celebrate it for the one month leading to the Deepavali Festival.

Every year, we set up a stall at the month-long Deepavali Expo opposite the Mustafa Shopping Centre along Serangoon Road and sell books there. This year also, we set up shop there from September 23rd to October 21st. Apart from that stall, by Kṛṣṇa’s mercy, we ventured, for the first time, into other avenues to distribute books. We set up a shop in the NRI BUZZAR on September 24th at Singapore Swimming Club, in the Salaam India Expo at Singapore Expo from September 25th to 28th, in the Singapore International Indian Shopping Festival at Suntec City from October 2nd to 5th.

The result was that we broke all records in book distribution history in Singapore till date. We distributed a total of about 10,500 books in this one month. We also managed to present a copy of Bhagavad-gītā to South Indian actress Shriya Saran as she came to the Suntec City fair for some performance.

Srila Prabhupāda once wrote in a letter to his disciple in 1972 as follows: “The more such literatures are read and distributed, the more auspiciousness will be there in the world.”

So we request all those who have taken the books to kindly read them and be blessed by Lord Kṛṣṇa for Deepavali and the New Year 2015. We pray for the auspiciousness of the whole of Singapore and the whole world. But our prayer is not sufficient. Everyone has to join in this Sankirtana Movement and chant the holy names

Hare Kṛṣṇa Hare Kṛṣṇa
Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Hare Hare
Hare Rāma Hare Rāma
Rāma Rāma Hare Hare

and read the books written by Srila Prabhupāda. Then definitely there will be complete peace in the world. You can find these transcendental books at Sri Krishna Mandir.
