Farm Community

The Malaya Giri Dham Farm Community Project, which is being undertaken by the combined efforts of the Hare Krishna devotees in Singapore and Malaysia, under the banner “Sri Krishna Mandir”.

The farm is situated at a 4-acre piece of land in Kota Tinggi, Johor, Malaysia. It is not very far from the famous Kota Tinggi waterfalls. It was bought by Sri Krishna Mandir, Malaysia, in the year 2006. But the developments started only earlier this year.

PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT

Our beloved spiritual master, His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, always stressed on “simple living, high thinking” and to realize this, he wanted farm communities in every part of the world so that an awareness can be brought about amongst the general populace, of an alternative lifestyle wherin the valuable human energy is channeled to its rightful purpose – self-realization; whereas the modern, artificial urban civilization keeps us busy day and night just for the maintainance of the body while self-realization is locked up in the closet.

Therefore, this project is a humble effort on our part, to serve the mission of Srila Prabhupada in bringing the lost, fallen souls back to their originial consciousness – Krishna consciousness.

OUR OBSERVATION

In our preaching efforts in Singapore and Johor Bahru, we have been observing that although people in general are favorable to our movement and some wanting to follow the strict principles, they are greatly hampered by their busy and odd working hours which they have to keep up with, in order to maintain their families and other commitments. This project will provide them with an opportunity to escape, at least in the weekends for now, from the busy city life to a scenic setting where only devotional atmosphere prevails.

The idea is that once they witness this simple and blissful Krishna conscious lifestyle with agriculture and cow protection, they will naturally lose taste for the urban lifestyle and will come to the understanding that such life is completely unnecessary, as the bodily necessities can be fulfilled simply by agriculture and cow protection, and the rest of the time can be utilized for spiritual cultivation.

OUR VISION

Let us face it – as Srila Prabhupada said, “This motor-car civilization will not last very long.” We can already see that the stress levels of the people is alarming. In a few more decades, if not years, this urban civilization will become unbearable to the citizens. The Srimad Bhagavatam, the great scripture, written 5,000 years ago, also predicts that in the Kali Yuga (this iron age of quarrel and hypocrisy), the citizens will be harassed by innumerable taxes, that for a simple morsel of food, they will have to work the whole day like terrible beasts of burden and that they, being unable to maintain their families, will run to the forests and live on wild fruits, etc.

There are many more such predictions mentioned in the Srimad Bhagavatam. Some of these symptoms have already manifested. Only time is separating us from the rest of the symptoms to manifest.

Considering all this, we have started this project. In the future, we expect many more devotees to adopt this lifestyle; and to cater to this influx of devotees, we plan to secure other plots of land around this particular plot so that ultimately, a large commune of devotees can be hosted there. Such a commune will serve as the ideal exemplary solution for all problems of the world.
